On July 21, I had an appointment for follow up bilirubin testing at the Monarch Centre in Ottawa (a well-baby and maternal health clinic) for my 6 day old son, who had been quite jaundiced and was on the brink of readmission for phototherapy. While I was at this appointment, the nurse at the Centre overheard me talking to my family doctor’s receptionist (Dr. Raichura's office) on the phone, as I was requesting a refill of pain medication as a result of a traumatic birth six days earlier. I did not have enough medication to get me through the weekend and I wanted to avoid going to a walk in clinic with a newborn should I require pain relief. After I hung up with Dr. Raichura's office, the nurse at the Monarch said that they could refill it for me there, which was great. I was in a significant amount of pain from delivery (third degree tear), so I appreciated that I would not need to go to another location to get this taken care of. As a courtesy, I called Dr. Raichura's office back to let them know the Monarch offered (this is a key word here - I did NOT seek this out) to provide the renewal for me, so I didn’t need them to. She said okay, and hung up. About 10 minutes later, the same receptionist calls me back and absolutely chews me out. She said that because I "went behind my doctor’s back and went to a walk in clinic (this is not accurate) to renew my pain medications”, they were releasing me as a patient. I have never been more insulted in my entire life. First of all, I did not go to a walk in clinic. I was at a scheduled appointment for my newborn son to check his bilirubin, when I was offered a refill. Second of all, as a longtime patient of this particular practice, I was astounded at how they simply assumed that I was seeking narcotics behind their back before they even took the time to understand the facts. During this second phone call, I explained the situation - that I was at the Monarch Centre getting my newborn's bilirubin tested and they overheard me and offered to renew it. I was not at a walk in clinic getting narcotics. The receptionist replied she didn’t realize that. I said, "How dare you treat women like this, especially someone who is six days postpartum," and with that, she told me to find another doctor and hung up. Had this been identified as being grounds for dismissal at the point I informed her I was at the clinic and they offered to do it for me - had she said "this is grounds for dismissal, you should come here and do that first" - my decision to proceed with the Monarch's offer would have been different. My family doctor did not give me any indication they could fill the prescription - given it was Friday afternoon, I was concerned that I would not get the pain medication I needed for the weekend. This is why I happily accepted the Monarch's offer. The needs of a postpartum patient are far greater than a typical healthy routine patient. I am extremely upset that I have been left without care during this crucial period. I need more follow up and observation - not just for me but for my newborn who happens to have specific medical conditions - jaundice and a broken arm from birth. The receptionist and the doctor behaved in an unprofessional, unethical manner. Before understanding the facts they immediately jumped to conclusions about where I was and what I was doing. As a result of this unbelievable unprofessionalism and blatant misunderstanding, my entire family - including myself - a new mother - my newborn, my two year old son and my partner - are all left without a family doctor. Do not go to this clinic - they obviously care about one thing: money. Patients are a distant second. So upsetting and discouraging.

I had registered to be a new patient in this clinic. When I registered, I told them honestly that I want to transfer family doctor because I just move to live in Barheaven that is really far to my family doctor. They said that there is no problem and let me and my husband booked an appointment with Dr. K. raichura yesterday November 21,2017 then we can be their patient officially. We came for the appointment; filled the history patient form and wait for the doctor. He was late. At begining, I already let him know that I want to transfer family doctor and he says ok with that; after I had told him what my health problem I get during this time, he refused to accept me as new patient. He gave the reason that his clinic just accept new patient who dont have family doctor, no transfer doctor. I dont know why he became a doctor. He doesnt help patient, he chooses patient. I had really bad experience with this Dr. I dont reccomend him.
